Upside down and all around
Contact Improvisation is a discipline in which we train body awareness and communication, as well as movement efficiency and physical availability... Where is the support? (mine or my partner’s.) How can we lift or be lifted with ease instead of strain? How can we invite more presence and pleasure? Who is this I am dancing with today?
In this class, we will practice deep body listening, and the range of possibilities that exist when we move together from a place of listening and support.
From this released and supported place, we can find ease in rolling and inverting, getting more comfortable with 360-degree interaction with the world!
Details
Kyle’s work is based on her experience in Contact Improvisation, Modern dance, Axis Syllabus, gymnastics, and nature. As a mature dancer, she loves movement that is generative, healthy, sustainable, and pleasurable!
Kyle has led Contact classes and events for over 10 years in Saskatoon and at Leviathan Studios on Lasqueti Island. In addition to regular weekly contact classes, she also teaches sessionals for the University of Saskatchewan, Sum Theater, Gordon Tootoosis Nikaniwin Theatre Company, and FreeFlow Dance Theatre Company.
Her approach to movement bridges the poetic and technical, seeking that magic mix of release and activation. Kyle also teaches somatic ballet and improvisation. She creates and performs with KSAMB Dance company, and has danced with FreeFlow Dance Theatre on and off for over 15 years.
