Overview

Professional and emerging dancers are welcome to attend the online zoom platform based Brain-Body Connection Professional Development Series hosted by Free Flow Dance Theatre free of charge. If you would like and can afford to make a donation to support the future of the company please do! We are pleased to host this series of workshops with the support of the Community Initiative Fund, City of Saskatoon and Sasktel.

Allen will be teaching July 20 and 27 2:30-4 pm. Please note you must register individually for each workshop thank you. 

IMPROVISATION for Theatre, Dance, Performance Art

In this workshop, Allen Kaeja offers extensive foundations for movement improvisation that crosses the various worlds of Theatre, Dance and Performance Art. Kaeja works with text, image or soundscape to trigger intuitive and impulse response from students of all abilities and experience.

In this workshop, we will harness vibrant and fluid fascination combined with skillful improvisation techniques either as a solo, or interactive between two people on various screens harnessing the technology of platforms that allow multiple screen conversations such as Zoom, YouTube etc.. Basics of sensorial exchange, equalized energy and finding the floor as yet another vital partner will become a playful and integrated exchange. This workshop will access the ease of moving in and out of various states of being.

How to join! When you register for your spot in the workshop you will receive an email with the information on how to join us via the Zoom Platform along with the appropriate password. Please plan to sign in to the workshop platform between 2:15 and 2:30pm CST.  

Please note for this workshop you should preferably have a clean open space to move in - no yoga mats or rugs if possible. Also, have a music source ready at your end as you may be asked to play your own music at some point during the workshop.

Allen Kaeja is an internationally recognized and award-winning Choreographer and Dance Film Director, who has created over 180 stage works and choreographed for 28 films. Allen is Co-Artistic Director of Kaeja d’Dance with Karen Kaeja. His stage and film works have been featured in commercials, films and festivals around the world. He has received numerous national and international commissions, teaches Kaeja Elevations and Dance Film master classes worldwide. Allen co-developed many site-specific and audience interactive engagement performance strategies with Karen over the past 30 years.

Allen and Karen recently completed performing/teaching in Japan, Singapore, China, Israel, across Canada, Mexico, USA and the UK. Allen is very excited creating with Director Keira Loughran, choreographing Wendy and Peter Pan for the 2021 Stratford Festival. Allen and Karen are creating for their upcoming 30th anniversary next year.

Kaeja Elevations defined and created by Allen Kaeja are developed from over three decades of refined exploration and collaboration with Karen Kaeja.
