F.A.C.E. delivers hope & empowerment to poor children in rural Africa. Our Goal is to help break cycle of poverty through Education.
Our Mission
To break the cycle of poverty in rural Africa through education.
We focus on primary-aged children, who are otherwise not able to attend school because of factors such as financial hardship. We focus on getting 90% of our donations directly to the children in need. F.A.C.E. accomplishes this through volunteerism and social consciousness.
About Our Charity
F.A.C.E. (Foundation for African Children's Education) was formed in 2006 and is a division of "Focus on Africa" Society. We began our work in Ghana and have been making annual tours, from Canada with volunteers, to some of the country's most remote villages in an effort to empower youth by providing the opportunity to develop knowledge.
It is only through the aid of sponsors and the dedication of our volunteers that we have been able to bring the gift of hope and an education to theses rural communities.
Where Your Donation Goes
Your donation buys a school kit for a child in need. The kit contains:
- Two sets of school uniforms
- A pair of sandals (for school use)
- Exercise books for each subject, pens, pencils, rulers, etc.
- A basic textbook and a dictionary
- A durable school backpack
We also provide the child's parent(s)/guardian(s) with $50 to help with lunches for the year.
Each year benefactors receive a photo and/or a letter of gratitude from their sponsored child(ren).
Who Are These Children?
In each village, F.A.C.E. has established an accountable selection committee of: retired-school teachers/administrators, religious and community figures, to determine which children are most in need.
Children are selected using the following criteria:
- Must live in the rural areas of Africa.
- Parents/Guardians must be known to the community as having financial difficulties.
Criteria For On-going Support
This facet of F.A.C.E. distinguishes itself from other charities travelling to this part of the world.
1) The children who participate in our program must stay in school to receive sponsorship.
2) F.A.C.E. ensures accountability by having each community’s selection committee members verify:
- the parent/guardian was honourable and conscientious with the sponsored child,
- the sponsored child continues to demonstrate dedication to academics through report card assessments with F.A.C.E. volunteers,
- the school kit is being utilized
- appropriate use of lunch money.
