Evergreen provides community based supportive services for people of all ages in Thornhill, Markham and Stouffville who are experiencing the impact of life-threatening illness and death.

About EVERGREEN HOSPICE

Each year more than 259,000 Canadians die, but only 16-30% of those who die currently have access to palliative care in Canada. An estimated 1.5—2 million Canadians provide care to ill family members, causing both financial and emotional stress. On average, Canadian families shoulder about 25% of the cost of palliative care due to costs associated with home-based care.

In Markham, Stouffville and Thornhill alone there are about 2,300 individuals each year who could use palliative care services and 10,000 who might benefit from grief support.

That is why Evergreen is here. We provide one of the few accessible options for professional counselling related to death and dying, at no cost to our clients.

Since 1989, Evergreen has provided community based supportive services to people of all ages and backgrounds in Markham, Stouffville and Thornhill, who are living with a life-threatening illness or coping with caregiving or the death of a loved one.

Support includes:

• One-on-one counseling
• Volunteer visits in the home
• Group support programs
• Life affirming activity programs
• Caregiver support
• Education
• Specially designed bereavement support services for all ages (children, teens and adults)
• Complimentary therapy for relaxation and relief (Reiki, Massage, Reflexology)
• Creative Arts for Healing (painting, music, legacy letters, dance stories)

We are here to make sure that those living with a serious illness, and their caregivers and families, get the vital care and support they need. We help provide individuals with dignity, personal choice and quality of life, helping clients and their families to make the most of their precious time together. Support doesn't end at end-of-life - we are here to support every step of the way along the journey, from the point of diagnosis, through treatment, end-of-life care and on into bereavement.
