When I arrive at work the first thing I do is make a cup of coffee and walk through the building to say good morning. It's one of my favorite ways to start the day because I get to witness JOY.
It's watching people laugh at each others' jokes. It's the excitement when they yell "Bingo" when they have a winning card. It's seeing the love between a tenant and her dog. It's the shrieks of the kids running down the hallway on the way to school. It's the volunteers who proudly wear their EHM shirt. It's the classic rock playing from the kitchen.
What I love about EHM is all the ways that staff create a sense of normal for people whose lives are anything but.
I'm biking from Scarborough to Oakville because I believe in joy. I believe in hope. I believe that we can do something special together! October 21 may be a day to end homelessness, but it's also a day to make JOY happen!
