VEMU Estonian Museum Canada’s mission is to collect, preserve, research and share material which reflects the life and culture of Estonians in Canada. The VEMU Estonian Museum Canada collections program, in cooperation with other institutions, organizations and individuals, systematically collects material on Estonian history abroad (publications, archival documents, photographs, audio tapes and records, films and videos, art, objects) through donations, purchase, commission and directed contributions. VEMU Estonian Museum Canada ensures the preservation of materials, taking care of their conservation and restoration if necessary. VEMU Estonian Museum Canada presents and shares the cultural heritage of Estonian Canadians to the public through exhibitions, lectures, seminars, conferences, workshops, concerts, theatre performances, films, publications, press, and more. We collaborate with other organizations, academic and memory institutions, and individuals in both Canada and Estonia, with further partnerships worldwide. The aim of VEMU Estonian Museum Canada is to construct a new museum building, where the permanent exhibition and programming will present the universal immigration experience through the experience of Estonian Canadians.
