About Emily Carr University of Art + Design
Emily Carr University of Art + Design is a learning community devoted to excellence and innovation in Visual Arts, Media Arts and Design.
We are a school of students, teachers, thinkers and makers. We are the only specialized, accredited, public, post-secondary university in British Columbia solely devoted to education and research in the creative sector and its associated knowledge economy. We merge research, critical theory and studio practice in an interdisciplinary environment, strengthening our work by the integration of our personal and professional practices. We are intentionally student-centred to foster dialogue, expression and open connections in support of the next generation of creative and cultural leaders.
Funding Priorities
- Indigenous, Black and People of Colour Student Award Program – to increase student award funding for students who identify as Indigenous, Black or People of Colour as an important step to address social injustices and systemic racism, and create greater and sustainable opportunities to succeed.
- Emily Cares Student Emergency Fund – many Emily Carr students became financially unstable overnight when their source of income was reduced or disappeared entirely. University-aged Canadians (15-34 years) have increased food insecurity as a direct result of the financial impact of the pandemic. Sadly, food insecurity also goes hand in hand with moderate to severe anxiety which can be a significant challenge for students’ capacity to achieve a post-secondary education. Your gift today to Emily Cares will ensure that challenges like food insecurity will not prevent an Emily Carr student from pursuing a creative career.
- Area of Greatest Need – to provide the University access to undesignated funds to address multiple funding priorities.
