About Edmonton's Food Bank
The Edmonton Gleaners Association, more commonly known as Edmonton's Food Bank, was incorporated in 1981 and was the first Food Bank in Canada. Edmonton's Food Bank acts mainly as a central warehouse, distributing food through over 300 agencies, churches and food depots throughout the city. Thanks to this consolidated effort, we ensure that food donations go directly to those who need it to the most. Since September 2014, Edmonton's Food Bank has seen a remarkable increase in need within our community. We help provide over 350,000 meals and snacks monthly through our partner agencies, including 86 schools in Edmonton. On average, our hamper programs service over 30,000 people per month. About 40% of our clients are children under the age of 18.
In sum, in our 40 + years of operation, Edmonton's Food Bank has evolved into a very efficient and very passionate group dedicated to eliminating the hunger problem in our city.
