Our Mission
Mission: To provide home support services, free of charge, to disadvantaged frail elderly, the housebound, physically challenged and persons in need living in the catchment area between Bathurst Street and Pape Ave and between St. Clair Avenue and the Lakefront. Care-Ring was founded in 1978.
Those simple neighborly support services include:
? Assistance with shopping and banking
? Transportation and escort services to medical or treatment appointments
? Friendly visiting with the housebound
? Escorting seniors for a walk in their neighborhood
? Reading and writing assistance.
? A “buddy System” regular telephone security check to a the housebound
Downtown Care-Ring also administers the St. Jamestown Youth Centre.
The goal behind the Centre’s programs is to provide a safe and secure learning and activities environment in a high density neighborhood where there are many opportunities for a young person to become involved in drugs or petty crime. The Centre’s programs help the children keep up at school, build their self-esteem and confidence, make then team players and give them an opportunity to display their artistic ability through the music program. Programs offered by the Centre include:
? An after-school program for children ages 6- 14 consisting of a homework club, tutoring program and a nutritious snack during the school year
? A (9) nine-week Summer Day Camp during the months of July and August.
? A Music Program in both the after-school program and summer day camp.
? A part-time employment opportunity for youth working in the after-school or summer day camp
All of the activities of the Centre are designed to promote and encourage youth and children alike to participate more fully and more positively in their community. There is no cost to any participant for the services provided. The St. Jamestown Youth Centre was founded in 1993 and had evolved over the years to what it is today. Over 100 children participate each year.
