Lucy's Barbie Brigade

They say everyone has a story, and Lucy's is no different—except hers comes with a little something extra. In December 2019, our beautiful daughter Lucy was born five weeks premature and with the unexpected diagnosis of Trisomy 21, also known as Down syndrome. Discovering that Lucy had Down syndrome was a deeply emotional experience, filled with the typical reactions many parents face: shock, disbelief, sadness, fear, and uncertainty. However, those feelings soon gave way to acceptance, love, empowerment, and a commitment to advocacy.

Down Syndrome Niagara (DSN) was one of the first organizations we eagerly reached out to, and it quickly became clear that DSN's members are dedicated to supporting parents and families through the emotional journey and unexpected challenges of raising a child with Down Syndrome, while also celebrating the joys along the way. Connecting with other families who have children with Down syndrome can provide valuable support, shared experiences, and a sense of belonging.

Please consider donating and joining Lucy's Barbie Brigade, alongside community members of Down Syndrome Niagara, for our annual Friendship Walk on Sunday, September 29th, 2024 at Grantham Lions Park. This day will be a celebration of the beauty and love that individuals with Down syndrome, like Lucy, bring into the lives of everyone they meet!
