ABOUT US

Doctors for Doctors delivers long term programs to improve healthcare services to regional Nicaragua, where access to healthcare is most limited.

Through supporting our programs you empower us to translate small investments into sustainable outcomes with big impact.

Our programs deliver change on the ground, reaching people in the communities where they live.  Through our scholarship and medical outreach programs, we empower young and gifted Nicaraguans to build a locally-operated sustainable healthcare model that will enable our program to expand its impact and reach.  Our programs are supported by our in-country program management and through partnering with an experienced locally-based charity for the administration of our scholarship program.

We keep the charity’s administrative costs low by relying on the generosity of a group of talented volunteers to power our organisation.

Your generous donation will help rural Nicaraguan families access healthcare in their community for decades to come.  As a registered Canadian charity, your donation to our programs is tax deductible.  Please help make a difference.

We have sponsored a new student for 2022: Jimena! Find out more here

WHY WE HAVE CHOSEN TO WORK IN NICARAGUA

Nicaragua is one of our poorest neighbours with a high concentration of people living in rural communities where healthcare services are scarce or non-existent. By comparison, Canada spends on average ten times as much per person on its healthcare.

There are insufficient numbers of trained clinicians to make the change needed to break the poverty cycle.  Nationally, Nicaragua has one of the lowest numbers of trained physicians per capita of countries in our region and the situation is worse in rural communities. Where there are properly trained staff, getting access to safe and clean medical equipment is challenging.

Until rural Nicaraguans have access to healthcare, they cannot hope to break the poverty cycle.  To lay this essential building block for change, they need our help.  Our programs offer workable solutions that will enable rural communities to have access to the trained staff needed to make change a reality.
