KLONDIKE INSTITUTE OF ART & CULTURE

about

The Klondike Institute of Art and Culture (KIAC) is a vibrant artistic and cultural centre at the edge of the Arctic that cultivates creativity through film, music, visual, literary, and performing arts. We host a variety of festivals, events, exhibitions, and arts education programs in Dawson City, Yukon on Tr’ondek Hwech'in Traditional and Contemporary Territory.

We're on a mission is to increase the quality of life of Yukoners because arts and culture creates strong, vibrant communities.

KIAC is operated by the Dawson City Arts Society.

DCAS is the Dawson City based community arts organization best positioned to enrich the quality of life in the Yukon through the advancement of arts, culture, and arts-based economy. That’s because only DCAS has:

  • changed the cultural and economic tapestry of Dawson City since opening KIAC in 2000

  • mentored a generation of local artists through KIAC’s arts education programs and by establishing the Yukon School of Visual Arts in 2007

  • transformed historic and underutilized buildings, such as the old liquor store (SOVA) and the Odd Fellows Hall (KIAC),  into colourful, cultural spaces

  • Established three annual festivals, Dawson City International Film Festival, Yukon Riverside Arts Festival, and the Print and Publishing Festival.
