Darkspark envisions an inclusive society that respects and celebrates diversity, in which engaged youth understand the power of their voices and use them for social change. Darkspark enables youth to enact social change using the tools of pop culture.

In all its activities, Darkspark lives the values of respect for diversity, inclusion and intercultural understanding it holds for society and operates with the intention of accountability and transparency. Its board members, advisors and program team members represent diverse cultures, backgrounds, identities and orientations but share a commitment to these values and a passion for the work.

WHAT WE DO

Working with individual youth, schools and communities, Darkspark combines intergenerational and intercultural learning with the pervasive power of pop culture to learn from the past and spark ideas and action towards a more inclusive world.

Our team of professional recording artists, music producers, educators and filmmakers guide youth to explore the history and current realities of a polarizing issue from many perspectives through shared experiences, storytelling and arts education activities, then to write, record and release pop songs with a social purpose.

Darkspark puts youth at the centre of positive social change – as they find and express their own unique voices on an issue, e.g. racism and discrimination, youth are empowered through each step of the Darkspark experience to lend their voices to and act on the change they want to see in the world.
