With one in 10 Torontonians now accessing food banks, your help is needed now more than ever.
We are the last resort for so many families and individuals who are struggling.
The city’s high cost of living, stagnant wages and insufficient social supports are driving more and more people to our doors. About 13,000 people are turning to a Toronto food bank for the first time every month — six times more than before the pandemic. We are their last hope.
We’re spending more than ever to keep pace with this unprecedented demand. Our annual food-purchasing budget has shot up from $1.5 million pre-COVID to $29 million this fiscal year.
Our vision is to end hunger in our city.
Daily Bread collaborates with all to eliminate food insecurity, and advocate solutions to end poverty.
In addition to distributing fresh and shelf-stable food, and fresh-cooked meals to member agencies across Toronto, we also publish the influential Who's Hungry report – an annual survey measuring trends in food insecurity and poverty in Toronto to educate the public and spark policy change.
It takes more than a food bank to eliminate hunger. When you support Daily Bread, you:
enable the distribution of over 28 million lbs. fresh and shelf-stable food through 207 food and meal programs across the city.
help to build the capacity and resilience of a network of 132 member agencies so they can continue delivering vital food security programs.
facilitate access to information and referral services to clients who would benefit from resources relating to housing, employment, healthcare, and more, and empowering them to access meaningful and sustainable pathways out of poverty.
support the preparation and delivery of fresh-cooked meals to unhoused neighbours, those living in isolation, or who don’t have the means to prepare foods at their homes.
fund research to help inform poverty reduction policy recommendations and advocating for impactful, long-term systemic change.
ensure that hundreds of thousands of pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables are diverted from landfill and get into the hands of people who need it most.
Our work is bolstered by the steadfast support of thousands of volunteers who contribute over 73,000 hours of service annually to Daily Bread. These committed individuals help to sort and pack millions of pounds of food, assist in the running of our onsite food bank, prepare nutritious meals in our kitchen, and keep our warehouse running smoothly.
Daily Bread does not receive any core funding from the government or United Way.
