Melanie Savage is a Registered Social Worker with over 15 years’ experience supporting marginalized populations, many of whom have been pet parents. She presently works in community mental health providing case management services through a trauma-informed lens and brings a strong background in advocacy, education, and awareness. Melanie recently completed her Master of Social Work with Dalhousie University after spending 7 months on placement with Community Veterinary Outreach where she designed and implemented a mental health and social support service for pet parents who attend the charity’s Ottawa region clinics.
Over the years, Melanie has seen firsthand the importance and invaluable impact that pets have on her clients’ mental and physical well-being while also creatively finding solutions to the barriers of accessibility, affordability, and availability to veterinary and human health care. She strongly believes in honouring the bond between clients and their pets through incorporating them into discussions, goals, and interventions, noting that the relationship at times is the single most valuable connection these individuals have.
Note: This workshop will take place online via Zoom. Registration details will be shared upon registration.
