We provide pro bono veterinary and human health care to people and pets experiencing homelessness in Canada. We are a national charity, operating in 11 communities coast-to-coast. We serve companion animals and their people.
Why?
- because pets provide a lifeline to the people who love them, providing unconditional love, no matter your economic status
- because pets are the gateway to providing care to the person at the other end of the leash
- because preventative care helps reduce transmissible diseases in our communities for everyone
Why donate?
Pets in Canada need you now more than ever. Post-COVID, there are more people experiencing precarious housing situations than ever before. Pets provide hope: help us keep people with the pets they love.
What else should I know?
Community Veterinary Outreach has been operating for 20 years, and works in urban and remote, northern, and rural communities.
What do we actually do?
For animals, we provide vaccines, deworming, preventative care, pet food, pet supplies, emergency boarding, and when funds allow, spay/neuter and urgent care.
We partner with community organizations (like shelters) and human health partners (like social workers, nurses, dental hygienists) to provide services each community needs.
We also offer opportunities for students from veterinary, vet tech, dental hygiene, social work schools to attend clinics, building capacity and understanding how to support people and pets with dignity.
Who do we serve?
Our clients are often BIPOC, indigenous, youth, new Canadians, survivors of domestic violence, women, elderly, LGBTQIA2SL+, disabled, or living with addiction.
