Enjoying music and friends at an outdoor festival is one of life's most basic joys. Thousands of Stanfest faithful do this every year in Canso. Over 40 artists and groups from around the world gather to celebrate songwriting and share their talents. Now in its 22nd year Stanfest has won many accolades and awards, and is considered one of Nova Scotia’s signature music festivals. While presenting artists from its host region, and indeed across Canada, the festival has presented some of the leading songwriters of our generation. Artists like Richie Havens, Don MacLean, Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith, Jerry Jeff Walker, Rita Coolidge and Ricky Skaggs have all taken the stage elevating the festival to national profile. Imagine Woodstock, but “East Coast Style” with world-class production, indoor and outdoor stages, wholesome food vendors, a diverse crafter village and endless jamming onsite and throughout the community. There are 800 campsites on the festival grounds and hundreds more nearby. This is a camping festival...... but there are hot showers, real washrooms, great food, licensed areas but very family friendly. Our definition of folk is almost limitless, it is “Music for Folks”. We present artists in virtually every genre, from country to jazz to blues to bluegrass to world and back around to celtic, and thats just the start. All of our artists are songwriters. Thats what we are, an international songwriters festival, and that is how we pay tribute to Stan Rogers.
