Our Mission:
Centre Greene is an inclusive independent, not for profit, community organization working to build a strong and vibrant community by providing recreational, social and cultural services to all.
A Brief History:
The Greene Avenue Community Centre (Centre Greene) was established in the spring of 1989 by the local community who wished to utilize the three-story building constructed by the Westmount Rotary Club during the 1940s to house a Unity Boys and Girls club. It is situated on Greene Avenue below Dorchester, across from Stayner Park. The City of Westmount purchased the building from Rotary in 1993 and has a long term lease with us for a nominal rent. We are responsible for operating, financing and maintaining the Centre which has six main activity rooms and a gymnasium.
Our Programs:
All our programs aim to promote the health, development, and well-being of the community. Child care and children programs focus on early literacy, life skills, and socioemotional development. Children 0-5 participate in Tumbling Tots for motor skills and play, Creative Corner and Child Yoga & Mindfulness. Every day of the week, our afterschool program serves elementary school children from the community. Every summer, children 5-12 attend quality programming in our summer camp. We serve meals to seniors, with over 500 meals served per year, to break social isolation and provide healthy and nutritious food. Fitness activities for seniors and adults, as well as creative arts workshops, writers' groups. Centre Greene also provides affordable and accessible space for community residents to use for social activities, meetings, sports groups. Cultural activities such as lectures, talks, discussion groups, language conversation groups, and public education activities also take place regularly at Centre Greene.
