NEW MOSQUE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
INITIATION OF THE PROJECT
Since its establishment in 2008, the Islamic Cultural Center of Lanaudière has continued to grow its members, due to a massive influx of Muslim families in the Repentigny region and surrounding towns.
The CCIL currently rents two semi-detached premises with a total area of approximately 4,500 square feet, which no longer meet the growing needs of the community, and offer very few amenities for the accomplishment of its mission. The acquisition of a new premises is an absolute necessity, and the idea of building a new mosque integrating all the facilities for a greater number of faithful has been widely adopted. The project will also allow the development of classrooms and an adequate framework to offer classes in Islamic education and learning the Arabic language to young people and to anyone wishing to take part.
PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
Purchase of land In 2017, the first steps began to purchase land. The choice was made on land located on Leclerc Street with an area of 33,673 sq.ft. In 2018, the purchase of the land was concluded after obtaining the notice of resolution for the adoption of the city's by-law to register the subdivision as a place of worship. Preliminary plan and estimate Following the purchase of the land, and to respond to the zoning change process, a preliminary plan and a summary estimate was presented to the city of Repentigny, defining the main lines of the project.
EXECUTIVE PREPARATION FOR CONSTRUCTION
After having taken this crucial zoning step, and the purchase of the land, thanks to your efforts of financial contributions, then comes the great and much awaited phase of construction. In 2019, the board of directors decided to create two bodies to carry out the project:
Formation of a team of volunteers in charge of fundraising This team will be tasked with raising funds from recognized organizations with similar objectives to our organization, soliciting charitable loans, and organizing fundraising activities to achieve our objective.
Creation of a technical committee to set up the execution and control procedures. The technical committee, after evaluating the needs and requirements, will select an architect who must develop the detailed plan of the project and establish an updated estimate.
FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AND BUDGET The initial estimated budget for the construction of the three-storey building is estimated at over $ 1,600,000.00; it will be updated when the estimate is drawn up by the architect. After the purchase of the land, the total donations collected to date after deduction of current expenses is $ 750,000.00
