A Season of Giving

Through A Season of Giving, help the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre (CASASC) support those in our community who are affected by sexual violence. With a focus on healing, empowerment and renewal, CASASC is committed to ending sexual violence and building safer communities.

But who is CASASC?

We are a not-for-profit organization serving the Central Albertan community for over 38 years. We are client and community-driven, offering all our services free of charge, including counselling sessions, education presentations and much more. Below is a brief rundown of our services:

Counselling: Crisis and short-term counselling services are available to those affected by sexual violence. Individual sessions are designed to support personal coping skills and accelerate recovery in people experiencing the after-effects of trauma. Sessions are offered in-person, by phone and by secure video chat. We offer play therapy (children ages 4-12), group therapy, and outreach counselling. We currently have two dogs in training (Oscar and Maslow). We support survivors, their families and their partners.

24-Hour Sexual Violence Help Line: The CASASC Sexual Violence Helpline is available anytime for questions or feelings that may arise. This line is open to anyone affected by sexual violence through phone, text message and webchat.

Sexualized Behavior Support Program: This program supports children and youth up to age 18 presenting sexual behaviour concerns.

Kinship Intervention Program (KIP): KIP provides mental health services for Indigenous youth and adults, including individual and group therapy.

Police, Community and Court Support: This program provides support, information and advocacy to survivors of sexual violence navigating the criminal justice system. Information is provided about the reporting process, court preparation and supportive reporting.

Facts about CASASC:

- Over the past two years (Sept. 2020 - June 2022), our education programs were presented 562 times to students and adults. This means 11,471 people have information to keep themselves safe, have respectful and meaningful communication with others and know that if anything happens to them, they know where to go and who to talk to.

- Over the past two years, our play therapists helped over 300 children ages 4-12 from all over Central Alberta through their healing journey in over 3000 sessions in our playroom.

- We are the only organization in Central Alberta that prioritizes early intervention and prevention by offering services and support for children with sexualized behaviour concerns between the ages of 4-18.

Our Cause - CASASC is dedicated to supporting those affected by sexual violence every day of the year. Sexual violence is prevalent in our community and the Province of Alberta. Below are some local stats:

-Forty-five percent of adult Albertans have experienced sexual abuse in their lifetime. That's almost one in every two people.

-Two out of three Albertans personally know and have supported a survivor.

-One in three Albertans experienced sexual abuse when they were under the age of 18.

-Most of the sexual violence that Alberta residents have experienced was perpetrated by someone known to them.

*The above stats are based on AASAS’s prevalence study, published on January 2020.

Now that you’ve made it this far into our stats, you have a better idea of why your support is so important to us to continue doing what we do. We are asking for your help in the form of monetary donations.

As you may have noted, sexual violence does not know age or gender. It does not discriminate - It could impact anyone. Typically, people do not realize they need us until they do. Support us today to continue our mission - ending sexual violence and helping build safer communities.
