It has been a challenging year for everyone, trying to navigate the ever changing Covid-19 pandemic. Here at the shelter, we have been struggling with new and safe ways of fundraising for our much needed work. This is the second year that we are not able to have our largest fundraiser in support of our kitten program. No large indoor group events means no ‘Paws in the Garden’ silent auction and luncheon, and that means we need to find another way to raise the $10,000.00 revenue this event usually generates for the shelter.
It appears that cats and kittens don't know something is going on … they continue to go merrily about their ways, and that means kitten season is upon us! All of the kittens that come through our doors are literally coming in off the streets. They come from our TNR (trap-neuter-return) program for free-roaming feral cats, or are abandoned like the Tim Horton’s Timbit kittens that were recently found in the garbage bin. Each one of these beautiful little babies who comes into our care will receive the proper medical attention they require and are then placed into our loving foster homes until they are ready for adoption. There, they will learn all about house life, learning to trust and love humans and how to play and flourish.
On average it costs us between $200.00 - $250.00 to get one kitten ready for adoption. This cost covers all medical expenses, food & litter, and any special needs for the sickly kittens. On average our revolving door will have approximately 100 kittens pass through it in the course of the year. That means $20,000.00 - $25,000.00 is needed each year to help these kittens. Some of our costs are covered through our adoption fee, but it does not cover everything.
We could sure use your help and support! Please spread the word and donate what you can, so that we can continue to help these little souls in need.
