Business No: 128488392RR0001
This organization is designated by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as a registered charity. They comply with the CRA's requirements and has been issued a charitable registration number.
Each year, The Capilano Review publishes two print and digital issues focused on contemporary writing and visual art. Each issue features up to 160 pages of thought-provoking poetry, fiction, essays, interviews, art, and criticism by emerging and established artists and writers working at the forefronts of their fields.
Our publishing program is joined by lively public events, including our annual monthly reading series, "Dear Friends &," produced in collaboration with local artist-run centre Western Front. We host an annual Writer-in-Residence program, connecting audiences with an established writer from beyond Vancouver through a series of readings, workshops, and one-on-one manuscript consultations. We are one of very few organizations in the city that continues to program these kinds of literary presentations and events, bringing to life all the ways in which literature exists off the page, in conversation with community.
The Capilano Review stands firm in our commitment to supporting emerging and established writers and artists from diverse backgrounds and geographies, contributing to the vitality of our expansive art and literary community. We remain committed to our artistic and editorial vision to showcase vibrant, rigorous, and community-engaged art and literature within the carefully bound pages of each issue, and take seriously the need to pay our staff, collaborators, and contributors fair wages for this work. One-time and ongoing donations will make an essential difference in sustaining our beloved art and literary publication in the years to come.
We are seeking to raise $30,000 by December 31, 2024 in order to continue this exciting work throughout 2025. Support The Capilano Review by making a donation today.
When you donate to The Capilano Review, your contribution goes directly to the people and materials that sustain our non-profit publication and associated public programming. This includes:
- Paying living wages to our small team of part-time editorial staff.
- Paying CARFAC (the national minimum standard for paying artists) or higher rates to the artists and writers with whom we collaborate.
- Supporting design and printing costs for our high-quality, full-colour, carefully-bound print issues.
- Supporting postage costs to ensure our magazine and the work of artists and writers reaches readers locally, nationally, and internationally.
- Supporting the cost of digitizing each issue, making digital subscriptions available to individuals and institutional libraries.
Each issue of The Capilano Review costs over $50,000 in total editorial and production costs to produce. That’s about $65 for every copy of the magazine.
We subsidize our subscription rate in order to keep our publication accessible to a wide community. Your financial contribution can help us cover the difference.
