Since 2010, CanU has partnered with Winnipeg schools to provide post-secondary discovery & mentorship for diverse and deserving youth from grade 5-12 at no cost. With the support of dedicated volunteers, partners and supporters, CanU has helped thousands of Winnipeg youth discover possibilities.
In 2014, a group of dedicated supporters of CanU's mission took on the inspiring challenge of hiking the Mantario Trail in a single day with the goal of strengthening CanU's impact.
The CanU Lead Award Scholarship Fund was established in 2016. Since then, we have awarded over $300,000 in scholarships to CanU participants that have shown outstanding leadership in our community - reducing the barrier of finance as an obstacle to their future. These scholarships are funded by supporters of the CanU Trail Challenges.
Sept 7 or 14, 2024 - The Strive Mantario Trail Challenge is a grueling 65 km hike, with more than a full km rise in elevation. Our team is going to hike this trail in a single 18 hour period. We do this because we believe in the CanU kids, the learners that they are, and the leaders they are becoming.
Sept 7 or 14, 2024 - The Northwool Centennial Trail Challenge is a more accessible yet challenging and rewarding hike. Spanning 36 km, teams undertake to complete this scenic trek through Whiteshell Provincial Park in under 9 hours.
Sept 21, 2024 - The Birds Hill Friends and Family Trail Challenge is perfect for friends and families wanting to support the Challenges while spending the day exploring their choice of trails at Birds Hill Provincial Park.
As a part of the CanU Trail Challenges 2024, we ask you to support us as we challenge the trail by giving funds towards CanU Lead Awards and scholarships. The CanU Lead Awards serve as an affirmation of the child's work and leadership and gives them a scholarship towards post-secondary education.
We have found that many of our Lead Award and Scholarship recipients go on to do amazing things and pursue dreams that would have appeared impossible without the support of the CanU community. Since the creation of the scholarship fund, we have awarded over 900 Lead Awards and Scholarships that are being held in trust by The Winnipeg Foundation.
The 2023 Mantario Trail Challenge raised over $50,000, and the goal for the CanU Trail Challenges in 2024 is to raise $125,000 through donations to approximately 40 Challengers. Please consider supporting any one or more of this year’s fundraising team.
We hope you will support us as we run for the CanU kids.
Thank you!
