In 2005 after a decade of teaching, Troy Harris, CanWES Founder, knew that he wanted to help people in some way. After a trek in Nepal with guide Mahindra Dahal, he learned about the roadblocks Nepalese children faced with access to education.
In 2007, he created the nonprofit, CanWES, and its goal to build a school.
Since April 2008, Everest English School has been a working and thriving school that has grown to be the heart of the entire community in Sanitar, Nepal. CanWES has helped to create the Everest English School; a place where students are excited to attend with the hope of providing a better educational future for their entire family. While they spend the day learning in classrooms, they bring knowledge and understanding back with them to share it inside their homes with their family members.
When Troy Harris walked into the village in 2007, only one person spoke English. Today the entire village is speaking English and building confidence in their ability to communicate in a second language. Exciting times in Sanitar!
Troy credits his committed board of directors as well as the entire "CanWES Family" (everyone who supports our efforts) for their continued assistance with the needs of a nation that struggles to survive at the best of times.
