The Canadian Wildlife Federation conducts its activities through a cooperative approach – working with people, corporations, non-government organizations, and governments to inspire collaboration in achieving wildlife conservation. The Challenge

Canada is fortunate to be home to thousands of wildlife species and vast areas of land and water on which they depend. Unfortunately many of these species are in decline, due in part to human activities. There are currently over 700 species of plants and animals at risk of being lost from Canada. There isn’t any one culprit, but rather a combination of factors that are leading to species decline.

Thankfully, there is hope. Through the conservation efforts undertaken by all sectors of Canadian society, many species are doing better. The Canadian Wildlife Federation is proud to be part of the movement designed to bring a brighter future for Canadian wildlife.

Ban With a Plan97, 890 Canadians joined with CWF to call for a ban on the use of neonics, harmful pesticides that are poisoning our pollinators and other wildlife.

Highlights of our 2017-2018 year

CWF negotiated a permanent increase in funding from Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) for marine mammal response on both coasts from $250,000 to $1,000,000.

Our Love Your Lake shoreline property assessment program continued in 2017. This year 7,031 shoreline properties were assessed on 41 lakes.Landowners continued to improve their practices on their properties and naturalize their shorelines in response to the recommendations in the personal property assessment.

Freshwater turtles are one of the most endangered groups of animals in Canada.
