The Canadian Sea Turtle Network (CSTN) is a charitable environmental organization dedicated to the conservation of endangered sea turtles in Canadian waters and worldwide. The greatest threat to sea turtles in Canada is entanglement and death in commercial fishing gear. Since it was established in 1997, the CSTN has collaborated closely with members of the commercial fishing industry to study and implement conservation measures for sea turtles. More than 500 fishermen have volunteered with the CSTN to date. The results of this unique partnership have changed the global understanding of both the biology of leatherback sea turtles and the threats to their survival at sea. In 2007 the CSTN was awarded the Gold Canadian Environment Award for Conservation.
