1- Illuminate (Mosque Renovation)

مَنْ بَنَى مَسْجِدًا يَبْتَغِي بِهِ وَجْهَ اللَّهِ بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ مِثْلَهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ

Illuminate is a global initiative fundraising campaign to support the renovation and rehabilitation of Canada's first Mosque, the Al Rashid Mosque in Edmonton, Alberta.

What does the renovation of the Al-Rashid Mosque entail? 

This campaign addresses many of the building's components that need repair and replacement while breathing new life into our essential place of worship and community center. 

The transformation focuses on safety, accessibility, and modernization. It includes an elevator to offer access to our mobility-challenged community members, handicapped-accessible washrooms, an expansion of the main entrance with improved doors, a newly renovated gymnasium, and windows for more access to natural light.

In addition, our updated viewing and prayer gallery will be an open invitation for non-Muslim groups to learn about Islam while we nurture our inter-faith relationships and welcome those from outside the Muslim community to Al Rashid Mosque.

Details of the Modernization:

• Enhance the mechanical system for heating and cooling.
• Improve and upgrade the electrical and lighting system: install energy-efficient lighting fixtures to help reduce operational costs and lower energy consumption.
• Expand the lobby's main entrance to improve safety and security for our community, easing traffic flow through the doorway and exits during peak times.
• Upgrade the gymnasium floor and basement to create an appealing space for Iftar dinners, funerals ceremonies, sports programming, and more.
• Addition of two female and handicapped-accessible washrooms in the gymnasium
• Addition of an elevator giving access to the building for Seniors and mobility-challenged community members
• Modernize the Musalla on the main floor by adding a viewing and prayer gallery. It will include a large arched window to the exterior, bringing in natural light.  This space will occasionally operate also as a viewing gallery for non-Muslim groups.
