The Canadian Defence Lawyers Foundation promotes the advancement of education by providing an annual essay prize to a student registered in a Canadian Law School.

Created to mark the milestone of the Canadian Defence Lawyers Association's 20th anniversary, the Foundation will award at least one annual prize of $5,000 to a law student who submits the winning essay.

Canadian Defence Lawyers believes strongly in the benefit of lawyers' involvement in professional associations which contribute so much to the legal community and to society. The Foundation aims to educate and inform people about the work CDL members do; law students and the public in general will be better served by broader discussion of tort and insurance law, and the impact of jurisprudence in these areas on our daily lives.
