Our Mission
The Calgary Buddhist Temple is a Mahayana Buddhist temple in the Jodo Shinshu tradition. The mission of our temple is to spread the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, and the lineage of Buddhist masters who followed him, to all Calgarians.
About CALGARY BUDDHIST TEMPLE
Jodo Shinshu Buddhism (also known as Shin Buddhism) was founded by Shinran Shonin, a 13th century Japanese monk. The Calgary temple has its roots in a fellowship establised in 1951. We have been in our current location since 1981.
Our meeting times are:
* Meditation: Sundays 9:10 - 9:40 am
* Services: Thursdays 7:30 - 8:30 pm, Sundays 10:00 - 11:00
Our address is 207 - 6 Street N.E., Calgary.
All the meetings are conducted in English. Visitors are definitely welcomed.
Our temple depends on the generosity of donors to pay for ongoing expenses and to build for the future. Expenses include the cost of utilities, programs (such as our Film Series) and the minister's salary. In addition, we are accumulating funds for a much-needed renovation of our temple building. The cost of processing credit card donations is approximately three percent.
