About This Charity

The Halifax Transition House Association (Bryony House) believes all those experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) and their children have the right to live free of violence. Bryony House is a 24-bed emergency shelter for those experiencing violence in our community. Each year, approximately 500 women and children stay with us, and 3,500 distress calls are answered. Our dedicated counsellors are there to answer the crisis line, provide individual/group supportive counselling, outreach services, housing services, public education, advocacy, and referrals. An important part of our work is to break the cycle of violence. Those who contact Bryony House come from many walks of life, socioeconomic classes and varying backgrounds. Bryony House staff work tirelessly each day to make an impact in people's lives and break the cycle of violence.
