about

Our Purpose:

The Blind People in Charge Program is a pioneering initiative by the Pacific Training Centre for the Blind (PTCB) designed to empower blind individuals through comprehensive leadership training, capacity building, and community advocacy—while also emphasizing the development of essential blindness foundation skills. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by blind community members in accessing education, employment, and leadership opportunities, this program provides participants with the critical tools and resources needed to navigate systemic barriers and manage the practical aspects of blindness.

Through a series of tailored workshops, hands-on training sessions, mentorship opportunities, and peer-to-peer networking, the program equips participants with competencies in strategic planning, effective communication, project management, and self-advocacy. At the same time, it ensures they gain vital foundational skills—such as adaptive technology use, mobility training, and self-organization techniques—that are essential for independent living and professional success.

With outcomes that include increased self-reliance, improved professional prospects, and a strengthened community voice, the Blind People in Charge Program will transform leadership opportunities for blind individuals. Support from this grant will enable PTCB to expand its reach, enhance its training modules, and implement a robust mentorship framework that promises long-term success and scalability across the Pacific region.

These programs are critical to blind people from across Canada, who have nowhere else to turn. Any and all donations have an immediate, direct, and positive effect on the lives of blind and DeafBlind people from across Canada by giving more blind and DeafBlind people the opportunity to participate and begin the journey to a better life. We need your help!

What people are saying

I love coming to the centre. I am happy when I come here. Everyone makes me feel so good and I don't feel alone anymore. Now I know I can be independent. The staff here listen to me and what I want, and they don't just tell me what to do. This is very empowering.
