This summer, I had the privilege to go on a 7-day backpacking trip in Kananaskis Country through the Canadian Rockies Youth Network. While preparing for this trip to the mountains, I realized just how hard it can be to access the Rockies. I found that the camping gear is quite expensive and can be dangerous to newcomers who may not know how to keep safe while camping in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Therefore, I am creating a kit for new Canadians and new campers which will include some essential gear for a four-person family as well as necessary information needed to safely recreate in the Canadian Rockies. I believe that the Rocky Mountains make up a huge part of Canadian identity, and everyone should be allowed to experience the mountains safely with the right gear and proper knowledge. Ava Vanderbeek
