TOGETHER, LET'S BUILD POSSIBILITIES FOR ALL !Join us to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable Montrealers.
Building the new house from the ground up allowed us to expand our service offering and include a housing component for which there is a great need in the community.
Located between Greene Street and Atwater, the new Labre House is adjacent to the Atwater Market and is easily accessible transport (5 minutes walk from the Lionel Groulx metro) and bike paths along the Lachine Canal. The new house is also located at the same walking distance from the CIUSSS Sud Ouest on Notre-Dame Street where clients can access medical services.
The new Labre House will include 36 studio apartments spread across 3 floors. The entrance to the apartment units will be located on Greene St. Each apartment will include a private bathroom, a bed, a table and chairs, a small fridge and a microwave. The units will not include a kitchen however, residents will have access to the dining hall located in the Day Center which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Benoit Labre’s Housing program involves moving people experiencing homelessness — particularly people experiencing chronic homelessness—from the street or emergency shelters into stable and long-term housing, with supports. Stable housing provides a platform to deliver services to address issues frequently faced among the chronically homeless. The goal is to help strengthen and build on the skills and abilities of the client, based on self-determined goals, which may include employment, education, social integration, improvements to health or other goals that will help to stabilize the client’s situation and lead to self-sufficiency. Each floor will be staffed by a social worker who will be responsible for accompanying the 12 tenants on the floor. The social worker will be in charge of proving tools for the tenants and assisting each tenant with whatever they may need.
The center will always be at a low threshold. It will be accessible to all vulnerable Montrealers who come to the center. Among other things, we prioritize the accessibility for people living a situation of chronic homelessness, living with addictions and mental health issues, through our new housing component.
The main objective is to have an impact on chronic homelessness, helping residents to develop their skills and capacities in order to have a positive experience and to have great opportunities in an appartment.
