UPDATAE: Since signing up for this race, Adalyn is being Admitted to the EMU on Monday- the day after the race! My 15 year old daughter, Addies siter, is also going t run in the mini 2.5km.
Here’s a snapshot of our story…. She’s 12 now. It started when she was 5.
Adalyn was diagnosed with a rare mutation to one of her x chromosomes, PCDH19 which contains the gene that makes a protein that helps cells communicate. It's like pieces of a train tracks are missing in the routes of her brain pathways. Adalyn has ADHD, Anxiety, Behaviour dysregulation and Impulse Control Disorder. She struggles with relationships with others and with herself.
Adalyn now has multiple kinds of episodes, and as she grows they change. Sometimes they are the silent ones, very hard to see happening, but you can usually tell afterwards. We're currently investigating a new type of episode - she starts shaking on her left side and sometimes it will take her whole body.
