UPDATE: As a precautionary measure in response to COVID-19, and in solidarity with theatres and cultural organizations across our city, it is with a heavy heart that we made the difficult decision to close our production of Ella Hickson's OIL.

We believe that ARC's production of OIL needs to be seen. However, the broad cancellations due to COVID-19 have put the company's financial stability on uncertain ground. It's not even simply that we had to cancel the run of OIL; ARC receives much of its annual funding from the AGCO's Charitable Gaming initiative. Because of this crisis, all Charitable Gaming events have been suspended across Ontario for the near future.

ARC IS 20 IN 2020

This is our 20th anniversary. And it’s been an EPIC year…

You know ARC. We’ve grown up together. Since 2000, we’ve become known as a scrappy little independent theatre company that consistently surprises, provokes, and punches well above our weight.

ARC is a truly unique theatre company. ARC's core team of Resident Artists - performers, directors, and designers - works closely on every project, building a deep sense of trust and creative play. It allows for a truly collaborative room, where each artist feels fully activated, invested, and heard. Though many of ARC's Resident Artists are busy contributing to the country's wider theatre landscape, they value their membership in this company because the artists choose the work they do. Each project is a carefully curated labour of love for us. Essentially, the artists are responsible for choosing the work we make, how we make it, and how to create a meaningful connection with the communities in which we make it.

The past 20 years have been a steady ramping up of operations for ARC. Our Resident Artists are now consistently named among of the best ensembles in the country. In just the past 5 years, ARC has been nominated for 14 Dora Mavor Moore awards, winning in 2016 for POMONA. This past year led to the company receiving a modest but important amount of stable annual funding from the city of Toronto, in recognition of our company’s past artistic excellence and future structural viability.

And you’ve been with us all along. Whether you’ve come out to see the shows, chosen to donate to our company, or simply kept up with us from a distance out of curiosity.
