Welcome to GivingTuesday 2021, the global movement for giving and volunteering that takes place each year after Black Friday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” it’s a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for favourite causes. In yet another year that has seen our community rally together despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope that on GivingTuesday you will help us raise funds to continue to support our families in the Alberta ALS community.
Since the start of the COVID pandemic, the ALS Society of Alberta has fulfilled over 600 equipment requests across the province, providing new equipment, replacements and repairs while using alternate delivery service models to follow safety protocols. The cost of equipment borrowed by our families over the course of the disease can range from tens of thousands to well over $100,000 – and thanks to the ALS Society of Alberta, this cost is reduced to $0. Please view and share this video with your friends and family to provide an example of how quickly these costs can escalate and what we can provide.
We have unfortunately seen significant drops in revenue from events in 2020 and 2021, as we have kept each other safe by staying apart. Due to the careful stewardship of funds from our donors, we have been able to continue through the pandemic. We have adapted and managed our costs appropriately, while aggressively pursuing alternate revenues. GivingTuesday 2021 - Making Possibilities is a key campaign as we look forward to the coming year.
Leading up to GivingTuesday on November 30th, we are featuring stories of some of our families and how they’ve been “making possibilities” using our equipment loan program. When our families are diagnosed with ALS we want them to continue to live their lives to the fullest capacity, this is why our Equipment Loan Program is vital. We strive to make the impossible, possible again.
We hope that our community and friends will think of us on GivingTuesday, either through a donation, a facebook fundraiser, or simply by reaching out to others in the community during this difficult time. As an independent provincial charity that receives zero government funding, the support of our community is so very much appreciated.
We invite you to share your stories of “Making Possibilities” with our community. If you or a loved one of yours has benefitted from the Equipment Loan Program and you would like to share your experience, please send us a an email at alscommunications@alsab.ca
Thank you!
