Alice House provides second-stage safe housing, counselling, and support services for women and children fleeing intimate partner violence.
Our History
Alice House was founded in 1983 to address a vital community need that would save lives. In the early 1980’s and after the boom of women’s crisis shelters and transition houses, it became clear that our communities needed more. Women who fled domestic violence were returning to those homes after a period of reprieve at crisis shelters. This was due to not having anywhere to go, financial barriers, or ongoing safety concerns not resolved by leaving home.
At Alice House, we fill this gap and provide second-stage, safe housing for women. A family can stay in these homes up to two years. In addition to expanding our housing over the years, we have also expanded programs and services offered.
At Alice House, women and children are given the opportunity to reclaim their safety, sense of peace, and a future free of violence. They reclaim their lives.
