Details

Join colleagues from the archives, art, heritage, and museum sectors for an evening of networking and entertainment. Co-presented by the Alberta Museums Association, Archives Society of Alberta, City of Edmonton Archives, Edmonton Arts Council, and Edmonton Heritage Council, the networking reception will take place on Friday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre in Edmonton.

The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum and the City of Edmonton Archives will be open during the event, for guests to experience some local Edmonton heritage.

Step in and explore Edmonton’s military past with a visit to The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum. Follow in the footsteps of the regiment from its local beginnings with the city’s mobilization for the First World War to the soldiers of the regiment who fought in Afghanistan. Please join the museum’s staff and infantry specialists by participating in an interactive historical firearms experience.

The City of Edmonton Archives is a purpose-built facility to protect and preserve the corporate and private records of the City.  The Reference Room and an archivist will be available to view historic pictures of Edmonton and to answer questions about the work of archivists. Come and explore.

Matthew James Weigel, an award winning Dene and Métis artist and author born and raised in Edmonton, will be doing a poetry reading at the event. His visual art often represents the many relationships we have with our surroundings, while his scholarly focus hopes to reclaim archival histories. His debut book “Whitemud Walking” recently won the City of Edmonton Book Prize and he is currently finishing his PhD at the University of Alberta.
