Making it unremarkable for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities to belong in post-secondary education.
STEPS Forward is a provincial non-profit that works with post-secondary institutions to ensure students with developmental disabilities are included as students in the typical academic and social life of colleges and universities of British Columbia.
The last 20+ years have been a very exciting time. We have grown from supporting one student at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design to supporting students across eleven campuses in British Columbia.
Today, adults with developmental disabilities can mature into adulthood alongside their peers and imagine a rich life where they are seen as valuable members of society and recognized for their contributions to their communities. Students with developmental disabilities who are pursuing their studies and building towards careers and connected adult lives, are challenging assumptions about what is possible and pushing the boundaries for inclusion.
Current Partnerships: University of Victoria, Vancouver Island University, the University of British Columbia at Point Grey and in the Okanagan, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Capilano University, Simon Fraser University, Trinity Western University, Nicola Valley Institute of Technology, Capilano University, College of the Rockies, and College of New Caledonia.
