Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada

about

The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada is a world-class facility dedicated to inspiring and engaging visitors in Canada’s aviation and aerospace heritage through preservation and education.

Even before its establishment as a city, Winnipeg was the epicentre of trade and commerce for Indigenous nations and travelers headed for all points north. When air travel landed in Western Canada in the 1920s, Winnipeg continued as a gateway for development, eventually becoming the operational headquarters for Canada’s first three national air services.

From aerial survey and mapping to cargo and passenger transport, to innovation in cold weather flying and rocket science, Manitobans have led the way, both nationally and internationally.

Building off the accomplishments of those who blazed a trail, we're also committed to inspiring the next generation of aviation and aerospace professionals. Our STEM-based educational programming and community partnerships give students access to exciting career opportunities in these sectors.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

1. Join the Sabre Squadron! Donate to our Restoration Fund!

The summer of 2024 marks the centennial of the RCAF and the 50th anniversary of the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada (RAMWC).

To mark these momentous occasions, our restoration team is restoring our Canadair F-86 Sabre Mk. 6.

This aircraft launched Canada into the jet age, and in homage to the Sabres flown by the RCAF, it will be painted with the livery of No. 441 Squadron once restoration is complete. The aircraft will be on display at RAMWC beginning in July 2024 in line with the museum's 50th anniversary.

2. Donate to our Access Fund

Help ensure students from the province's underserved schools and communities have equal to our STEM programming.

3. Donate to our Library & Archives Reading Room Fund

We started with a small group of visionaries and are now proud to have one of the largest aviation heritage collections in Canada. We get many requests from students and researchers asking for asking to items in our collection. A reading room would allow us to open up our collection to the public.

4. Donate to our General Fund

Direct your donation to the area of greatest need with a donation to our General Fund.
