Helping Serena Project

In January of 2017, Barbara Kentner, an Indigenous woman from Thunder Bay was critically injured when a man targeted her and threw a trailer hitch at her from a moving vehicle. Tragically, Barbara passed away from complications from the injuries sustained in this attack several months later.

Barbara left behind her daughter Serena. Serena continue to attend Dryden High School during this tragedy and while she was awaiting justice for her mother in the trial for the man who caused her mother's death, Serena, now aged 19, was diagnosed with Leukemia.

Serena has had to move to Ottawa from her home in Northwestern Ontario for a bone marrow transplant, and has to remain in Ottawa for continued chemo therapy treatment. On top of everything else, COVID19 is upon us.

To help Serena cover her expenses, local artists are donating their works of art to raise funds. In the last 3 months the collection of art for The Helping Serena Project has grown to 75 pieces of original art and prints, and other hand crafted items from Indigenous and Non-Indigenous artists of all ages from across Canada. The auction will open on Sunday February 21 and close it on Sunday March 14. The collection is featured on The Helping Serena Project Facebook page.
