Canadian General Surgery Foundation

about

The Canadian General Surgery Foundation (CGSF) – formally the Canadian Surgery Research Fund – was founded in 1983 to fund research performed by early career general surgeons and general surgery residents in both clinical and basic science. Since its inception, the Foundation has funded many significant research projects in surgery, some of which had have interdisciplinary application, and it contributes to the Annual Research Retreat for Residents in General Surgery.

For over 40 years, the Foundation has supported projects in the areas of advocacy and education, as well as research at all career stages.

Canadian general surgeons have pioneered the development and application of minimally invasive surgical techniques, cancer care, transplantation, and the management of trauma and sepsis for innovative, cost-effective, evidence-informed health care delivery. It is the mission of the Canadian General Surgery Foundation to ensure that general surgeons in Canada can continue to undertake impactful research that ultimately holds the delivery of optimal patient care at its core.

Why donate to Foundation?

When you donate to the Canadian General Surgery Foundation you are supporting research projects conducted by general surgeons in Canada, advocacy initiatives for general surgeons in their practice and development of education. These early career operating grants and funding programs provide an opportunity for general surgeons to explore surgical challenges and work toward solutions to improve patient care which can be of benefit to the entire surgical field.

If you choose to make a directed gift to one of our current campaigns, you can be confident your donation will be put to work right away to help further research to support both general surgery challenges and practices with the overall goal of providing the finest patient care in Canada.
