Mission
The Cranbrook Archives, Museum and Landmark Society is dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and celebrating the diverse histories of Cranbrook, the East Kootenay region, and beyond. As stewards of Fort Steele Heritage Town for the Province of British Columbia, we manage this historic site alongside the Cranbrook History Centre to provide immersive, educational, and authentic experiences. Our nationally designated railcar collection, internationally recognized paleontology specimens, and extensive archival repository connect people to the past through dynamic exhibits, research opportunities, and engaging programming. We believe in the power of history and science to ignite imagination, stimulate curiosity, and foster community connections.
Vision
To inspire a deep appreciation for history, culture, and heritage by serving as a gateway to the stories of Cranbrook, the East Kootenay, British Columbia, and Canada. Through our management of the Cranbrook History Centre and Fort Steele Heritage Town, we aspire to build community spirit, honor diverse perspectives, and provide meaningful opportunities for discovery, education, and connection to the land and its people.
We would like to recognize and honour that we gather to learn, share, and work on the traditional unceded territory of the Ktunaxa and Shuswap First Nations.
