Our Mission

The VYSO nurtures and develops young musicians, both artistically and as individuals. Our programs, including performances, rehearsals, tours and workshop, provide our musicians with the opportunity to discover and realize their potential in a secure yet challenging environment.

We are firmly committed to keeping our program accessible to young musicians, regardless of their financial and cultural background. In order to ensure that tuition fees remain affordable, the VYSO maintains a continuous and intense fundraising effort.

The VYSO also contibutes to the community at large. We actively pursue opportunities to join with other community organizations in support of their youth programs.

About VANCOUVER YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA SOCIETY

The Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra has a long history in Vancouver dating back to 1930, forming first as the “Vancouver Little Symphony". Today, the VYSO is a dynamic, multicultural, non-profit organization that proudly develops and nurtures young musicians and is recognized throughout Metro Vancouver for its very fine, multi-level orchestral training program.

The mission of the VYSO is to provide the highest standard of orchestral training for young musicians. VYSO musicians come from all across Metro Vancouver and membership is highly multicultural, with strong representation from all of Vancouver’s ethnic communities. The VYSO program provides excellent role modelling for young people,powerful ambassadors for the city, region and province and great enrichment for our communities’ cultural fabric.
