As of January 11th, 28 people have died, homes have been reduced to rubble, and over 6.3 million hectares of land are estimated to have been burned. Early reports indicate that over a billion of animals may have been killed, and habitats are completely destroyed. Rain has fallen in Victoria and New South Wales which has helped matters, however, fires are still burning as of January 16th. Help is still needed to provide aid to evacuees and help rebuild.
