Our Vision
Youth and families living healthy lives and the next generation empowered in a good way
About Inner Hope
Inner Hope journeys alongside youth and families in East Vancouver, most of whom are struggling to break generational cycles of poverty, abuse, and addiction. These challenges often lead to involvement in the foster care system, dropping out of school and dependency on welfare. The demographic we serve includes single-parent families and racially oppressed minorities. Around 85% of those we serve are of Indigenous descent. Many of Inner Hope’s families continue to suffer the impacts of colonization and the residential school system including ongoing inter-generational trauma.
As a Christian organization, we acknowledge the historic role that Canada’s religious institutions played in harming our Indigenous neighbours, and we take seriously our responsibility for healing damage and reforming harmful practices within the spiritual community we are part of. We seek an active role in reconciliation by responding directly to the Calls to Action from Canada’s Truth & Reconciliation Commission, by developing meaningful, personal relationships with parents and grand-parents, encouraging their involvement where possible. Our Homes are neutral grounds, spaces cherished by the families we walk alongside.
