ABOUT STUDENT ENERGY
Student Energy is a global youth-led organization empowering young people to accelerate the sustainable energy transition through a variety of initiatives, including university-based Chapters, a digital Energy System Map, and the largest student-led energy conference in the world.
We work with a network of 50,000 young people from over 120 countries to build the knowledge, skills, and networks they need to take action on energy. Student Energy’s core programs include a network of 50+ global post-secondary Chapters, a digital Energy System Map and video series that has reached over 13 million users, and the International Student Energy Summit, the largest student-led energy conference in the world. Student Energy also builds young people's capacity to develop projects and begin careers in the energy system through the Student Energy Fellowship, Career Training, and Guided Projects programs.
We also work with governments, companies, and organizations to facilitate meaningful youth engagement and mobilize resources to support youth-led energy solutions, in a program we call Space for Youth.
We operate on a unique youth empowerment model, which means that our initiatives are co-created with young people, for young people. We have consistently found that when young people are empowered to take action on energy and have access to decision-making spaces, they are able to raise the level of ambition in that space.
OUR PROGRAMS
STUDENT ENERGY CHAPTERS
Chapters are quickly becoming the most in-demand program for Student Energy, with 50 Chapters worldwide and many more on a waiting list. Collectively, our Chapters engage with over 20,000 people a year through their energy projects, educational initiatives, and community-building events.
Student Energy Chapters allows students to leverage our global brand and organizational knowledge to take action on energy in their communities by building interdisciplinary energy literacy and developing tangible solutions to tackle energy issues in their communities. Chapters work together to choose their own focus areas and projects in order to best respond to the needs of their community.
The Global Chapter Network is an incredible opportunity for students to connect to and work with their like-minded peers from around the world while gaining professional development skills.
STUDENT ENERGY FELLOWSHIP
The Student Energy Fellowship provides core energy systems education and builds project and leadership skills for young people to take action on the energy system, through a 10-month virtual program paired with mentorship and a project.
Participants complete the Fellowship ready to pursue their big ideas in energy as an entrepreneur or intrapreneur working with companies, governments, organizations and research institutions.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ENERGY SUMMIT
The International Student Energy Summit (SES) is the largest youth-led conference for students on energy. SES is Student Energy’s pinnacle event and takes place every two years in different cities around the world.
The event targets international, multidisciplinary post-secondary students in undergraduate and graduate studies interested in energy. The Summit is run by a team of students who win the bid to host and organize the conference with the support of Student Energy Global.
ENERGY EDUCATION
Student Energy’s Energy System Map is a dynamic, freely accessible tool for diving into the complex world of energy. The interactive ed-tech platform brings energy information to young people through an interactive Energy System Map, which includes short write-ups introducing young people to fundamental energy system topics, paired with animated videos and deep dive resources. The Energy System Map and energy education videos have been one of our organization’s greatest successes: The Map has reached over three million users, and our videos have reached 6.8 million visitors since their launch.
Recently, we launched Phase Two of the Energy System Map, which introduces a new category called Influences on the Energy System, which contains 20 new topic pages on issues such as climate change, energy access, and markets and finance.
Used by students at all educational levels, educators, independent learners, and organizations, the Energy System Map is the premier tool for anyone wanting to learn about the energy system to dive in, explore and engage. Energy is complicated, so the Energy Systems Map breaks information down in an unbiased way so students can have an accessible entry point.
