About NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN (NOW) CANADA SOCIETY
NOW Canada Society is a Kelowna-based charity that works with sexually exploited female youth, and homeless women and children in our community, providing a variety of services free-of-charge.
The agency, formerly Servants Anonymous Society of Kelowna, began in 1998. Today, the agency provides one of B.C.’s most comprehensive services to sexually exploited female youth, including safe homes, life skills education, trauma therapy, work experience and second-stage, subsidized housing.
In 2002, the society opened a low-barrier homeless shelter for women and children, after a federally funded study showed this was Kelowna’s #1 need in addressing homelessness. Alexandra Gardner Women and Children Safe Centre (AGSC) accepts any female, regardless of age, race or circumstance, as long as they are homeless and there is a bed available. It is the only such shelter in B.C., outside the Lower Mainland.
