Hospice provides comfort and support for individuals and families from diagnosis to end of life and grieving.
We provide a full range of services to the Greater Trail and West Kootenay communities.
Funded by the RDKB REDi grant we have increased our Volunteer Training. the next Volunteer and grief training will take place in the spring of 2025..
We continue to reach out to children who are dealing with grief and loss. Our Children's grief program is very popular and has been operating since 2014, fully funded by Teck Trail Operations. In 2024 we held three sessions for children ages 6 - 12. Our next session has started but there will be another one in the spring of 2025.
Our Nav CARE program supports people who have received a life limiting diagnosis but who have not reached the end of life stage of their illness. Our volunteers help to navigate the health care system, make adjustments based on the progress of the illness to the clients life and home, and companion them as the illness progresses. In 2022 we welcomed the West Kootenay Nav Care Collective into our Society. This group includes services to Nelson, Salmo, Kaslo, Nakusp, the Slocan Valley and surrounding areas.
In conjunction with UBCO we are developing an additional Nav Care program around dementia. Meeting with caregivers and those suffering from dementia we are trying to pinpoint the areas where this demographic needs more community support.
Our Friendly visitor program is very popular and our volunteers meet with their clients once a week for conversation, cards, outings or whatever adds value to the client's life.
We also provide Advance Care Planning either to groups or one to one. This is really important to ensure that the care you want is the care you get at end of life.
Of course, our volunteers continue to provide respite for our end of life clients and their family. This can be at home, in the hospital or facility.
