Bridget's Bunnies works to ensure no one endures pregnancy or infant loss alone by providing comfort kits to those experiencing loss.
At Bridget’s Bunnies, we work to ensure no one endures pregnancy or infant loss alone. We attempt to accomplish this through our comfort kit program and our annual community celebration of love, Bridget's Run.
Bridget’s Bunnies receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of our community. It began as a way of honouring our daughter, Bridget Bell Morrison, who was unexpectedly born still one day shy of her due date on November 22, 2017. We were in no way prepared for the news that our baby had died and felt completely alone in our grief. We have no doubt that given the opportunity Bridget was going to accomplish great things with her life. This is our attempt to ensure that still happens.
Bridget’s Bunnies currently provides comfort kits to individuals and families experiencing pregnancy or infant loss at many health care centres throughout Simcoe Muksoka. This innovative approach to caring for individuals and families connects with parents experiencing loss at their time of crisis to ensure they immediately know they are not alone (limiting isolation), aid them in making memories and bonding with their babies (limiting future regret), and providing them with resources to aid them in the days following loss while they begin their journey towards healing. These kits also act as a tool for the healthcare providers and offer direction on how to best support the bereaved parents.
We provide kits to the hospital that are then shared with individuals and families by the medical staff. Recipients begin using them while still in hospital as they include memory makers such as hand and foot print molds, mess-free ink pads, a baby story, and small bunny to stay with the baby when saying goodbye. They also include journals, resource and grief books, a baby memorial book, tea and other items.
On demand kits are also available for those who did not receive one in hospital. As well, we have comfort kits for fathers/non-birthing parents, siblings, grandparents, and Indigenous parents.
